Gwynedd Valley, Pa. - The Notre Dame of Maryland University lacrosse team saw their 2012 season come to an end with a 14-12 loss to Gwynedd-Mercy College in the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) quarterfinals. The Gators conclude their season with a 8-8 overall record and a 3-6 mark in CSAC play while the Griffins are now 8-9 on the year and will face #2 Cabrini on Wednesday, May 2. In the other CSAC quarterfinal, Centenary outlasted Neumann, 13-9, and will play at #1 Marywood.
The Griffins jumped out to a 2-0 lead but
Allison Terry and
Ashley Cumberland evened the score at 2-2 at 22:53 with unassisted goals and at 18:46,
Molly Murray put the vistors up 3-2. Gwynedd scored twice more to make it a 4-3 game, but
Terry recorded her second goal at 16:22 to make it 4-4. The Griffins went on a 5-0 run over the next six and a half minutes to jump out to a 9-4 lead, but
Terry scored two more goals to make it 9-6 with 2:20 left to play in the opening half. Gwynedd responded with two more goals and
Terry converted her free position attempt with :26 on the clock to send the teams to halftime with the Griffins up 11-7.
Just sixteen seconds into the second half,
Terry made it an 11-8 game, but Gwynedd responded again with two goals to extend their lead to 13-8.
Lindsey Miller,
Terry, and
Murray scored one goal apiece over the next eight minutes to make it a 13-11 game with eight minutes to play, and Gwynedd and Notre Dame would again exchange one more goal to make the final 14-12 score stand.
Terry was the game's high scorer with seven goals and led the Gators with four groundballs and six draw controls, while
Murray finished with three goals, an assist, and five draw controls.
Cumberland and
Miller each had one goal, and
Katie Johnston had five draw controls.
Mary Briggs made five saves in goal.
